Eventful moments in black progression
a) Bombing of Birmingham church- In September 1963, 4 black girls were killed by bomb planted in church in Alabama.
b) Civil Rights Act passed- In July, 1964, congress passed law forbidding racial discrimination in many areas of society, including hotels, voting, employment, and schools.
c) Mississippi Summer Freedom Project- In 1964, civil rights workers try to force the right to let the blacks vote. 3 are killed and many black homes and churches are burned.
d) Selma to Montgomery march- In March 1965, Martin Luther King Jr. leads 54-mile march to support black voter rights.
e) Voting Rights Act approved- In August 6th, 1965, southern black voter grows by over 50% and educated African Americans are allowed high quality positions.
f) King assassinated- In April 4th, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. is shot by James Earl Ray, while supporting sanitation workers strike.
